I wrote this piece for a writing competition with a one hundred word limit. Quite a challenge for a writer who has a tendency to use too many words!

Enjoy.

A Twilight Swim.

I slip quietly into the warm lake and swim towards the bewitching sky-mirror of quivering fells and fuzzy clouds.

Yearning to reach the purple and blue hues and melt into their world.

But each rippling circle of my outstretched fingers propels the dreamy picture out of reach. Only to provocatively return each time my pale limbs briefly descend into the dark depths.

As the owl-light deepens, two tiny bats dash silently around my head, and the watercolour painting transforms into sheets of warm gold.

Sadly, it is time to return to the land of stone.
