I wonder how often you feel the call of a place that you love? In your daydreams or night dreams, a-tugging at your heart. A yearning to be there, to feel the old magic of that wild land once again.
Soon, I will be journeying to one of the wild places I love so much…Mull, my favourite Hebridean Island. I will never tire of Mull. Wild, remote and mountainous. Full of wildlife… sea otters, sea eagles, seals, dolphins, deer and birds galore. The light on Mull is simply unbelievable. Hues of blue, pink, grey, silver, yellow, green almost every colour of nature can be seen in just one day.
I’ll be travelling around Mull on my bicycle of course! It’s an ideal place for cycling, especially on the west coast roads. Roads that are narrow and steep and less inviting to cars. There are also some off-road tracks plus plenty of secret places to wild camp!
Whenever I’m preparing to escape my day-to-day life and work, this poem, The Journey… by Mary Oliver, invariably pops into my mind;
‘though the whole house, began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles…
